The State of California minimum wage is $11.00 per hour for employers with 26 or more employees, or $10.50 for employers with 25 or less employees. But many local cities and counties have their own minimum wage that exceeds the state minimum. Many of those local minimum wages increased effective July 1, 2018:
Emeryville: $15.00 for 1-55 employees, $15.69 for 56 or more employees.
Los Angeles City: $12.00 for 1-25 employees, $13.25 for 26 or more employees.
Los Angeles County (unincorporated areas): $12.00 for 1-25 employees, $13.25 for 26 or more employees.
Malibu: $12.00 for 1-25 employees, $13.25 for 26 or more employees.
Milpitas: $13.50
Pasadena: $12.00 for 1-25 employees, $13.25 for 26 or more employees.
Richmond: $11.91 for employees who receive benefits, $13.41 for employees who do not receive benefits.
San Francisco: $15.00.
San Leandro: $13.00.
Santa Monica: $12.00 for 1-25 employees, $13.25 for 26 or more employees.
This is only an update for locations where the minimum wage increased July 1. Many other locations have their own minimum wage that exceeds the state minimum. And there is no uniform date for increases. While some locations increased their wage July 1, other locations (for example, Oakland) increased its minimum wage January 1, while Berkeley is set to increase its minimum wage October 1.
